Spit on This

Traffic wardens in Edinburgh will be issued DNA recovery kits to trace assailants who spit at them.

Wow. I don't even know where to start with this:
-big invasion of privacy?
-big waste of taxpayers money?

And in the U.S., we're just getting around to testing the DNA in cases where the conviction occurred 22 years ago. Amazing.

  1. It's sad to think that getting spat upon is a big enough problem in Scotland that they need to resort to this in the first place!

  2. Hello Blonde Justice,

What invasion of privacy? Testing something which the person, of his/her own free will, assaulted someone with? And put him/her at risk for disease - multi-drug resistant TB, hepatitis C, MRSA, HIV, etc?

(Let's keep in mind that besides mucus and saliva, blood can also find its way into spit.)

Also, how is it (necessarily) a waste of taxpayers' money to try to track down assailants - especially those whose assaults could prove crippling or even fatal?
